Housed in a 4m transparent cube and visible from all sides, Enlighten integrated dance, comedy and participatory theatre with interactive lighting and projections and was a delightful collaboration with Melbourne based, physical theatre company, Born In A Taxi for White Night festival in Melbourne.

To support the improvisational nature of the performance, solutions architects, iion developed real-time tracking-based interactive content-pieces projected onto the four surfaces of the cube. Using a Kinect sensor for skeletal tracking within the bounds of the cube, player positions and gestures could be derived for use by our interactive engine. A number of scenes during the performance utilised the interactive engine to amplify players’ movements and to create delightful interactions between the performers and the projected aspects of the scene.

Four projection towers created a three-dimensional image across each box side. Moving and static light fixtures both inside and outside the cube, along with LED spots for intensely concentrated vertical light beams were projected into the night sky, creating an ethereal, dramatic tone.

Enlighten at White Night was a sensory delight, a journey into an ethereal world, transporting audiences from the sublime to the ridiculous.
